“I caught a shark before!”
Interviewed by Kavin Suresh on February 22, 2021

What is your year, major, and hometown?

I am a Junior. I am majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Data Science. I am from central New Jersey.

Why/how did you choose Computer Science?

Computer Science is super interdisciplinary and applicable with a lot of other fields. Also, I am pretty into startup stuff.

Fun Fact

I once caught a very small shark!

What are your hobbies/interests?

I really like calligraphy, drawing, and making Tik Toks! I also play League.

Who is your favorite champion?

Probably Ahri/Orianna!

What are your professional interests?

I am probably going to work for a random company once I graduate. I'm always jotting down random ideas in case I want to make a startup. I would love to create consumer facing products.

What made you choose B2C vs. B2B?

B2B is probably easier, but B2C products are super cool and you get to impact people in positive ways!

What internship experience do you have?

I interned as a SWE at DefinedLogic and AT&T.

Other campus involvements?

I am the Member Engagement Chair at UPE. I also was learning to figure skate before COVID hit.

How did you find out about SAAS? Why did you join SAAS?

I found out through a family friend who used to be the Web Dev director a long time ago, Anthony. I didn't know what I was gonna do professionally at first, so it was a good choice for me. I ended up tacking on a Data Science minor because of SAAS.

Favorite SAAS committee you've been in and why?

I really liked being the Web Dev director with Linda! Even though it was all online, we were all super close. I hope they continue that in the future.

What did you learn/do in the committee?

I learned how to code random web widgets stuff. Like we did like the attendance thing on the website. Also, various web development concepts such as APIs. For example, the Google API. I also got to teach React!

Why did you stay in SAAS?

Mostly for the social aspect. I love seeing the confessions page and Rachel's various "endeavors".

What is your proudest accomplishment in SAAS?

Being a director. It's not something I really thought I would do. For example, other directors really had a lot of knowledge and teaching experience compared to me. So I was outside of my comfort zone in a good way.

How has SAAS helped you with your career/professional development (e.g. decide on a career path, learning new skills)?

It really helped me with behavioral interview questions since I had a lot of answers from working in groups. Like I always have one or two examples from my SAAS projects I can bring up. Also I can put HTML/CSS, Javascript, etc. on my resume which definitely helps a lot for more web development oriented places.

Favorite SAAS memory?

Probably playing Jeopardy on my very first welcome night. Brian Yao carried us and we won!

How did you make friends with people in SAAS/how did you meet them?

By talking to people! I made most of my friends in my committee. I made a close friend in CX, but we went to different committees afterwards. Basically interacting with whoever you happen to be sitting next to.

What is your personal vision for SAAS going forward?

More interpersonal events like socials so that you can form better relationships with the people you are working with! I think it really helps because it pulls people to be accountable for their projects and stuff if you have a close knit club.

Favorite class?

I think probably [CS] 61B. I liked Josh Hug a lot. And like, the way he taught me it was really fun. It was like my first real coding experience.

Favorite professor?

John DeNero for his super warm and fuzzy personality. I also really liked Josh Hug's teaching. Also, Alistair Sinclair for CS70!

Favorite Berkeley memory?

I really liked eating at Imm Thai and Marugame at Berkeley, even with all the long wait times and everything.

Favorite spot on campus that more people should know about?

Berkeley Way West -- love to study with people there.

Favorite place to study at on campus?

Moffitt 5th floor or Main Stacks since I don't really like to work in loud places. If I am collaborating with others, then noisier places are fine. Berkeley Way West is great for studying with friends.

Prettiest and ugliest building on campus?

Ugliest is definitely Evans. Prettiest is probably Soda Hall. It's really blue and has a palm tree. It has Cali vibes.

Favorite bathroom to use on campus?

The newer ones on Moffit's fifth floor!

Favorite restaurant?

Imm Thai, Cheeseboard, and Gypsy's!

Favorite boba shop?

Happy Lemon!
